NYC school teacher. Inner city High School. 99.999% minority. My mission is to find internships, CoOperative Business experiences annd Transition Linkage for Special Education students. I've noticed that many jobs require a Driver's License. My school offers limited flight training, so why not driver training? We have a flight simulator. We should also have a real driving simulator and a means to give our students an opportunity to get a driver's license or at least a learner's permit. It is something that they can use for their entire lives, increase their self-esteem, employability and road safety. The benfits seem to far out weigh the costs. I want to see it happen in a public school where most students fall below or close to the poverty line and who cannot afford the $400-$500 to take private lessons. I believe we owe it to them.
I also wonder what would have happened if there were young people who might have been trained to drive vehicles out of harms way in case of natural disasters or evacuation orders. I believe that more lives might have been saved . It's time to give our youth the responsibility now that they will inherit in the future.
